Pink & Green

The Preppy Mafia tag that originated on Beth Dunn's blog, Social Climbers, has been bestowed upon me by My dear friend PinkMartins&Pearls. I am a proud "made-woman" in this Mafia of fabulosity

Here are my answers to the official questions:

1. Who is your style icon? My Mom is flawless. All of my style inspiration comes from her glamour. I also love images of Jane Birkin, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Moss

2. What is your favorite socialite lit book? The Party of the Century

3. Favorite party theme? I'm really jealous of Whitney Port's recent girly tea party birthday. (Complete with peony-filled tea pots!)

4. Go to Halloween costume? Holly Golightly. Tiara. Cigarette holder. LBD. done.

5. Extravagance you cannot live without? Chanel lipstick, pedicures, & iced-mochas

6. Living person you admire? Any & all M.O.M.s (Mothers of Multiples)

7. Greatest Fear? "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you."
Deuteronomy 31:6

8. Trait you deplore in yourself? I require everything to be beautiful & interesting. (I have a hard time tolerating the opposite.)

9. Which talent would you most like to have? I'd love to be able to paint sun catching, drunk with color, Matisse like paintings.

10. Greatest Achievement? I'm really proud of the song I wrote about my girls.

I'd like to tag these stylish ladies:

Katie

Cricket

Morgane

What would Martha do?

Whether you are celebrating Holy Week ,or The Rites of Spring, I hope you do it in grand style. Where I come from winter is long & cold. We shed our parkas like butterflies from the chrysalis & we really know how to enjoy a 50 degree day!

I have to thank my Husband for indulging my over-the-top need for holiday expression. I come by it naturally. The women in my family do up each & every holiday with love & sparkle. To me those two words have almost become synonymous.

Wishing you blessings, bunnies, & beauty. Happy Easter. Happy Passover. Happy Spring.

If you have to cry...........

I loved Kelly Cutrone on The City, so I continued watching her on her new Bravo TV show Kell On Earth. I like Kelly because she is a straight-shooter & a devoted momma. The book is pitched as a how-to for young women. It didn't read like that though. It was an effective autobiography. It is Kelly's path. For her to say anyone else should use it as a blueprint is a contradiction of her trail blazing mantra.

MAD for Alice

Updating this....
...to this requires fashion GENIUS! I am so impressed with the costuming of this movie. It has to win an Academy Award next year. (I called Marie Antoinette's Oscar for costume design. I hope I've called this one as well.)

What girl wouldn't want her own suit of armour? Just the need for one shows you that Alice is going to be her own hero in this film. Girl power - how Posh!

On Saturday night on of my best friends & I ventured down the rabbit hole with Mr. Burton & Mr. Depp & Ms. Atwood. Colleen Atwood the film's costume designer. What a fashion-fest this movie was, even the animated characters were decked out by Ms. Atwood. There is a striped dress Alice wears as "Um" in the Red Queen's castle that I just LOVED. It was so Vivienne Westwood, almost a punk princess fairytale moment. So fun. The film is gorgeous & we did see it in 3D. (I kept forgetting & wanting to take the glasses off.)

There were some slow parts, but Johnny Depp would pull you right back in. There were a few slightly macabre parts, so I wouldn't suggest for small/sensitive kids. It's a must-see if you have a middle school-aged girl because it is a female champion, which is so rare. Burton must have made this for his 2 year old, Nell, to see some day when she's a tween & a clique or a boy threatens to define her.

You know this isn't a movie review though! See it with a friend. See it for THE CLOTHES!

Oscar Dress Faves

Carey Mulligan was my favorite. So young & fresh. Love the shoes. I could never pull off short hair like that, she looks adorable. Fabulous movie too btw.
Chanel + Mom of Twins = Fabulous!

Father/Daughter Fantastic. Rock & Roll royalty. I remember when her mom's pregnancy rocked The Cosby show. Now she's all grown-up & stunning. How sweets & special that he brings her. Love it.

Marchesa makes dreamy gowns. This is romantic & lovely.

Truce?

Dear March,

I realize we have never really gotten along. Every year I try. Every year you refuse to cooperate.

Why are you so gray? Muddy snow is not appealing. Melt or freeze - choose. Why can't we just get along? I'm wearing my sherbet colors. I'm listening to unrelentingly upbeat music. I am buying an unreasonable amount of Chanel lipstick and Deborah Lippmann nail polish.

I realize it takes a bit of imagination to finesse fabulousness in the dreary climate in which I live. I am really trying, but perhaps you could help a little? A possible real life leprechaun sighting? That would be fun! Don't speak to me about green beer. I find that kind of paper hat Irish history patronizing.

I love the songs & the stories and the mystical feeling of nature waking from it's slumber. I know we have to trudge through the muddy snow to get to the flowered meadows. I also know it's more fun to be dressed like a flower whilst you do the trudging.

There are things I love about you, March. I court you every year. You are fickle & taciturn and not eager to impress me. Let's meet in the middle. Let's find the fabulousness together as we stagger toward spring.

Let's pray & hope & eat & sing.

March, let's be friends.

XO
